This illustration was created in memory of those who lost their lives in the hotel fire in Bolu Kartalkaya on January 21, 2025. On a winter day in Bolu Kartalkaya, a brown bear sleeping in a cave suddenly wakes from hibernation by the smoke of afire and the sound of screams. It hears a baby crying and notices a newborn wrapped in an embroidered yemeni, the traditional scarf worn by the brave men of Bolu. On the baby there is a note: “We were reborn so that no other lives would be lost.” The bear takes the baby into its arms and gives him three names: Yiğit, Alp, and Ömür. Together with all the creautures living in the forests of Bolu, they promise to raise the child and to protect every life — human, animal, and plant — in Anatolia with compassion

The brown bear (Ursus arctos) found in our country is the Eurasian brown bear. It is omnivorous, feeding on both plants and meat. It communicates through scent and sound. It enters hibernation from October to December and can wake up when necessary.
