Mohair, also known as tiftik, is the product of the Ankara Goat, which originated in our country and spread to the rest of the world from Anatolia. For this reason, the tiftik goat is known in world literature as the Ankara Goat (Angora Goat).
It is known that the Ankara goat was brought to Ankara and its surrounding regions by the Turks centuries ago. By adapting well to the region’s arid climate and soil, the breed acquired its present physical structure and distinctive mohair qualities here. Since that time, the Ankara goat has maintained its status as one of Anatolia’s most distinguished and characteristic income-generating breeds.
Until 1838, the Ankara goat was bred exclusively in our country, and it would not be wrong to say that its homeland is Anatolia.
